The Associazione Borghi Autentici d’Italia obtained the approval of a project among Programme "Europe for Citizens" - Measure 1.2 - Networks of Twinned Towns, promoted by the Educational. Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA), being part of the European Commission.

Such project is called hENCE - "Network of European Communities for Energy Change", whose aim is to promote the willingness of European local communities to reduce CO2 emissions and make their territories and cities energy-independent by reducing energy consumption, energy production from local sources, the end-use efficiency energy. These objectives will be achieved through awareness, contribution, cooperation and active participation of citizens, economic forces, business and city administrators.

The exchange and networking of knowledge sharing initiatives, experience and methodologies already in progress and already established at Community level are hENCE instruments and hENCE objectives, to be achieved through deliberate actions and collective behavior aimed at decreasing CO2 emissions and fighting climate change.

The challenge of hENCE is to be able to act from below, leaving local communities to initiate changes aimed at sustainable development and green economy, through the use of actions ready to be applied. Intensive networking activities contribute to the objective of giving people the opportunity to interact with each other through meetings, in-depth discussions, membership events, all to be able to contribute and participate in the construction of an EU more and more environmentally sustainable, close and democratic, thus developing a sense of belonging to the EU through the sharing of experiences and opinions.

hENCE requires the active involvement of partners through the transfer of best practices, creative cooperation and exchange of experiences across borders, which will lead to the identification of actions in a better way than working individually. From the cooperation of cities and associations of local authorities (IT, PL, MT, AT, GR) the aim is to create an integrated system that shares practical activities and interests around a common project.

hENCE includes four events in four cities, each partner will participate in organizing and refine the work program of individual events according to their experience and expertise.

Project’s start: June 2010;
Project’s end: June 2011.
